John D. Sussman, M.D.
Dr. John Sussman is a comprehensive Ophthalmologist who, since 1963, has practiced in Westchester and been on staff at Phelps Memorial Hospital. He did his premedical studies at Amherst College where he received a BA degree in three years. Thereafter he received his MD degree at New York University School of Medicine. Both internship and specialty training in Ophthalmology were completed at Montefiore Hospital in New York where he served as chief resident his final year.
From 1963 to 1970 Dr. Sussman was in charge of the Outpatient Ophthalmology Service at Grasslands Hospital where he was responsible for clinical and surgical training of the Ophthalmology residents. This was in addition to his practice in Tarrytown, which continued uninterrupted until he joined Hudson Valley Eye Associates in 2000.
Dr. Sussman is Board Certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology and is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons (FACS). He has been a member of the American Academy, New York State Ophthalmological Society, and Westchester County Ophthalmological Society.
He and his wife, who has a Ph.D and teaches fulltime both college and postgraduate students, live in Sleepy Hollow. They have four grown children and an increasing number of grandchildren.
