Cataracts
The human eye is similar to a camera. Light coming into the eye is first focused by the cornea. It then passes through the pupil and the rays are bent by the lens, creating an image on the retina. This image is then transmitted by the optic nerve to the brain.
As cataracts form, the natural lens becomes cloudy, subsequently blocking and scattering light rays to the retina. The result is blurred vision, glare, halos and other visual disturbances.
When cataracts become visually significant, surgery to remove the clouded lens can be performed. Concurrently, a plastic implant is placed into the eye to restore focusing power.
Hudson Valley Eye Associates provides the most advanced surgical techniques for cataract surgery. We offer several types of implants including the ReSTORĀ® and Acrysof Toric. You and your surgeon will determine the appropriate lens.
