LASIK Surgery
LASIK is an acronym for Laser-Assisted in Situ Keratomileusis. It is an eye surgery which corrects near sightedness (myopia), far sightedness (hyperopia) and astigmatism (blurred vision due to irregular eye curvature).
LASIK became a reality in the early 1990s, and enormous strides have been made in the ensuing years. The patient is generally awake, given anesthetic eye drops and a mild sedative. The laser then reshapes the cornea. Patients experience a significant improvement in the clarity of their vision, often no longer needing corrective lenses.
Hudson Valley Eye Associates provides pre-LASIK eye exams at which time all of our patients’ questions and concerns are addressed. We offer both traditional and Wavefront-guided LASIK.
